The Frozen Meal Program
The Weekly Frozen Meal Program began in April with The 1016 Pub, The Raven’s Rest Inn and Top Spot all preparing meals for our menu. We thank those restaurants and staff for their support of our program and for the excellent meals prepared. When they resumed operation of their businesses in early June, the Chef’s Collective in Whitehorse began sending roughly 100 free weekly frozen meals out to us and Top Spot continued to provide a wide selection of breakfast
meals and pizzas.
In early July, the meal program will have a new menu in place . TopSpot remains in and keeps providing us with delicious, healthy meals. Our new menu will be in the mail as soon as it is available and extra copies will be at the Post Office.
Frozen Meals Program is subsidized by Government Canada New Horizons for Seniors Program & United Way Yukon, as well as local supporters and private donors. Subsidized meals are for community members 0 to 100 years old that require support during these challenging times. The menu selections are assembled on Monday mornings and with the assistance of the RCMP and community volunteers, the food is then delivered to your door. Thank you to everyone.
We've distributed 719 meals in 9 weeks.
The Food Hamper Program
The Food Hamper Program is a 4 month (May to August) pilot project in partnership with Whitehorse Food Bank and National Food Bank. The program is open to all community members. The hampers are built in Whitehorse and delivered to our community. The hampers are then locally dispatched and delivered by an amazing team of volunteers and with assistance from CAFN Community Wellness team. The Food Hamper program recently secured funding from the
United Way Yukon to assist with the delivery of the program beyond August and we are working with funders and community partners to build the capacity for long term success.
